England ‘can’t ignore’ Exeter’s Fisilau – Walder
Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Jack Fisilau’s form means England cannot ignore him for international selection, says his club’s backs and attack coach, Ryan Walder.
Fisilau, 26, joined the Chiefs in the summer from Doncaster Knights and has been in impressive form since.
Walder said: “Jack’s form is so good that England can’t really ignore him. He is playing so well. He’s really dynamic and quick and he gets the boys on the front foot.”
Fisilau, who can represent both England and Tonga, was born in New Zealand and spent his early career playing in France for Aviron Bayonnais.
Walder added: “It’s great to see him performing so well and putting pressure on the other scrum-halves in the England set-up. He’s got that X-factor about him and he’s really making a case for himself.”
England head coach Eddie Jones has a wealth of scrum-half options to choose from, including Ben Youngs, Dan Robson, and Harry Randall.
However, Fisilau’s performances for Exeter have not gone unnoticed and he could soon find himself in contention for a call-up to the national team.
Walder continued: “It’s a nice headache for Eddie to have, but Jack is definitely knocking on the door. He just needs to keep performing at this level and his chance will come.”
England are set to announce their squad for the autumn internationals next week, and Fisilau will be hoping to be included in the group.
Regardless of whether he receives a call-up or not, Fisilau’s impact at Exeter has been undeniable, and he will no doubt be a key player for the Chiefs in their quest for silverware this season.
